A good eraser.

A good eraser.

This week’s poem is by Caroline Caddy. I chose it because I have been thinking a lot lately about editing as healing. I love the way this poem captures the process of removing to reveal. And holds both the bigness of the moon and the smallness of a drawing in one place.

What has the process of editing revealed to you?

Editing The Moon

Caroline Caddy

Be precise
authority is magic.
When you think you've got it straight
wax wane declination
feel the movement under your hand
one summer morning
as you observe it set
then rise that night.
Always use a well-sharpened pencil
followed by a good eraser.
Watch the white emerge.

Stay hungry.

Stay hungry.

Moving as editing.
