The body electric.

The body electric.

This week’s song is from the musical Fame. It is inspired by the poem of the same name by Walt Whitman. I chose it because I have been thinking a lot about bodies lately; I have been thinking about the ways that our bodies are sources of power and inspiration. Occupying our bodies in a world that tries to separate us from them as a means to oppress and control is a radical act. You can listen to the song here.

What helps you source your body for power and inspiration?

I Sing The Body Electric

Irene Cara, Eric Brockington, Paul McCrane, Traci Parnell, Laura Dean

I sing the body electric
I celebrate the me and to come
I toast to my own reunion
When I become one with the sun

And I'll look back on Venus
I'll look back on Mars
And I'll burn with the fire
Of ten million stars
And in time and in time
We will all be stars

I sing the body electric
I glory in the glow of rebirth
Creating my own tomorrow
When I shall embody the Earth

And I'll serenade Venus
I'll serenade Mars
And I'll burn with the fire
Of ten million stars
And in time and in time
We will all be stars

Yeah, ooh, yeah!
Yeah, yeah!

We are the emperors now
And we are Czars
And in time and in time
We will all be stars!

I sing the body electric
I celebrate the me and to come
I toast to my own reunion
(my own reunion)
When I become one with the sun

And I'll look back on Venus
I'll look back on Mars
And I'll burn with the fire
Of ten million stars
And in time and in time
(And in time and in time)
We will all be stars!

With joy.

With joy.

Sing your heart out.
